Frequently Asked Questions

What is banana silk? Banana silk is a mixture of banana fibre and cotton, woven into beautiful silk-like fabrics. Harvested banana plants are turned into silk, which normally would have ended up on the compost heap. Why is the VAT ID asked for? Currently, we mainly sell to business customers. Why are there minimum order quantities? There is a minimum order quantity for custom-made products, especially with plant dyes, because otherwise the dyes would have to be disposed of due to their lower durability (compared to chemical dyes). In addition, with certain traditional looms and weaving techniques, it is not possible to cover the loom with short yarns, which are only calculated for one metre of fabric. How long does it take from order to delivery? For each order, an individual delivery time is calculated for the specific order. On average, a production of up to 20 metres takes 10 weeks. Then you have to take into account the freight from Thailand to Germany and customs. A larger fabric order takes an average of 12-14 weeks for delivery. If the fabric is to be painted by an artist of your choice, you have to reckon with 2-4 more weeks.

Why does production sometimes take longer?

  1. reservations from other customers

  2. season of the plants for fibre and colours

  3. pandemic measures

  4. royal orders have priority (orders for fabrics by the Thai royal family always have priority in Thailand).

  5. number of looms and master weavers varies depending on the weaving mill.

Is the production finished directly after weaving? No, the fabric will be washed afterwards, because black charcoal is used in the weaving process. If a painting is desired, it would also be painted to the fabric afterwards. Why do I have to pay in advance? It takes many visits and material samples to find new artisans as cooperation partners whose work meets our quality criteria. We pay the artisans in advance so that their income is secured during the work - and not only after the fabrics have been delivered. Why can the colours be slightly different than on the website? The fabric panels are made differently by hand. This process creates a certain variation, but also exclusivity of the products. With our plant colours, the season and harvest must be taken into account. In addition, the colour may vary depending on the season and age of the plant. JAHSANG fabrics are not industrial products. Every fabric is unique. How many new colours are added to the range each season? As many as possible, because our goal is to develop innovative plant dyes to bring as many master weavers and artisans as possible into our network and to create a lasting global demand for local handicrafts. When does the supply chain of the substances begin? With the smallholders who collect the plants and flowers for further processing. Why are there no discount campaigns? We respect family life and the capacities of the artisans. This means that our production capacities are not ramped up for promotion days or we produce for a warehouse. Together with your early advance planning, we produce the fabrics only after you have placed your order with the artisans. With this clever planning, we avoid overcapacity and use our resources efficiently. The timeless and traditional designs of the artisans are not subject to the seasonal cycles of the fashion industry. What should be observed when processing JAHSANG fabrics?

Washing: The natural, usually light colour, such as white or beige, does not fade. A fabric dyed with vegetable dyes, on the other hand, may very well fade. That is why you should separate the colours when washing, preferably washing by hand at a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius. If you machine wash, a laundry net should be used. DO NOT USE A TUMBLE DRYER! After washing, simply shake the fabrics out vigorously in the air and hang them up in the light sun or even in the shade. It is important that there is always enough air to reach the wet fabrics and that there is as much space as possible between the between the individual pieces. Ironing: These fabrics can be ironed. Fabric paintings should be ironed from the back side, so do not iron the painting directly. Shrinkage: Fabrics tend to shrink to a certain extent during use (depending on the indoor climate) and during care treatments such as washing or dry cleaning. The shrinkage value of a fabric is partly due to textile technology and depends on the use of fibres, fabric construction and finish. Guide values for comparing different fabrics are: Cotton 5 to 7% shrinkage Banana silk 5 to 7% shrinkage Hemp 5 to 7% shrinkage Linen 5 to 7% shrinkage Viscose 3 to 5% shrinkage Silk 1 to 3% shrinkage Synthetics 1 to 2% shrinkage Exact specifications are unfortunately not possible with regard to the individual custom-made design, use and treatment. We recommend taking the expected shrinkage value into account by means of generous hem reserves or wash folds. Seam push strength: Fabrics in rep weave or rep look have a lower sliding strength for seams that run at a 90 degree angle to the rib due to the textile technology. For seams that are subject to heavy loads, we recommend seam tests and seam reinforcement with fixation lining in advance.

The use of upholstery fabrics is influenced by the following factors: - the type of upholstery - the professional processing - the intensity of use - proper care

Is there a sales office or warehouse in Germany? Yes, our office is in Munich. We have rental samples in stock in Germany. Since we mainly offer one-off and custom-made products, there is no warehouse. Each order is made individually for you. What is NFT? A certificate that shows that you own a file, e.g. a meme. NFT is the English abbreviation for Non-Fungible Token, a "cryptographically unique, indivisible, irreplaceable, and verifiable token that represents a specific item, whether digital or physical, in a Blockchain". On the Internet, NFT refers to a unique digital token that is characterized by the fact that it cannot be replaced or copied. Source: https://nftschool.dev/ Why do we offer fabric painting and NFT?

We want to support and motivate artists. The fact that the original artists can get percentages for each repeated NFT sale, is the best motivation!

The hand-painted physical special editions made for you can be additionally transformed into a digital license plate (NFT).

NFTs have a Smart Contract, which can be programmed in such a way that the original artist of the painting receives 10% of the NFT sale price each time the NFT is sold by the buyer.

We would also like to use the blockchain to accurately track the logistics chain and green Procurement accurately.

Our goal is to support artisans as well as artists.

JAHSANG supports community artists with the digital transformation of their artwork. We would like to show our artists what it means to own a piece of the Internet and prepare them for the metaverse. Can an NFT have value? A work of art drawn by artists or hand-woven by master weavers is unique. An NFT makes the artwork less counterfeitable. Although technically you could exchange the artwork for something of its original value, the exchange value of the artwork may become higher than before. By allowing each token to contain a small amount of arbitrary data, NFTs become a medium for creative expression as well as a unit of exchange and account. The value of an NFT is therefore highly dependent on the data it contains and represents. The same NFT can be valued completely differently by different people, depending on factors such as aesthetic taste or the identity of the creator.
